James W. Boyd is president and chief executive officer of John T. Boyd Company, an international consulting mining and geological engineering firm located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Denver, Colorado; Scottsdale, Arizona; London, England; and Brisbane, Australia. He graduated in 1968 from West Virginia University with a BS Engineer of Mines. Mr. Boyd began his mining career as a union laborer for CONSOL Inc. in underground mines from 1966 to 1968. From 1968 to 1971, he held various underground mine management positions with CONSOL Inc. He joined John T. Boyd Company in 1971 as an engineer and was promoted to his present position in 1984. He is the author of Fundamentals of Coal and Mineral Valuation, which was published in 1986. Mr. Boyd is active in numerous professional organizations such as Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc.-1999 President; National Mining Association (NMA)-Director and NMA Board of Governors, Manufacturers Division; and is a Registered Professional Engineer in numerous states. Mr. Boyd is a director of Resultant Management Group, L.L.C., a business that provides proactive results for clients facing strategic, tactic, and economic challenges.
