W. Douglas Blackburn, Jr. received his bachelor's degree in mining engineering from the School of Mines, West Virginia University in 1972. He also received the MBA from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies in 1978 and a JD from Harvard University in 1989. Blackburn has held numerous engineering and operations positions over the last 30 years with several major U.S. mining companies, including Zeigler Coal Holding Company where he held the title of senior vice president of operations. On February 1, 1999, Blackburn joined Asian American Coal, Inc. as its president. Asian American Coal, Inc. is a British Virgin Island Corporation charged to develop coal holdings in the People's Republic of China. Blackburn will speak on the development of the largest mining complex in China.
